Arguably the standout three-year-old filly of the 2014 Spring Carnival, trainer John Thompson has confirmed First Seal in the 2015 Surround Stakes final field.

Finishing outside the places just once over her seven start career so far, First Seal won the Daily Press Group Maiden (1100m) first-up in spring; progressing to a close second behind Sweynesse in a Rosehill minor over 1400m before taking out each of the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).

Running second in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) before returning to the paddock, the Fastnet Rock filly placed second in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up this time and will be particularly difficult to beat on Saturday from the central barrier 7.

Peggy Jean was unable to make much of an impact over a short spring preparation, but was a standout for Gerald Ryan is autumn and is offered a great chance of a return to the winner’s circle on Saturday from the ideal barrier 5 in the 2015 Surround Stakes.

Winning the Inglis Classic (1200m) and running on for third amongst classy competition in a minor over 1200m at the beginning of 2014, Peggy Jean placed a close second to Bring Me The Maid in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 29th before taking out the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) in impressive fashion on Day 1 of The Championships.

Having placed a credible fourth in the Light Fingers Stakes first-up, the Myboycharlie filly is sure to relish the step-up to 1400m on Saturday and has been confirmed to be partnered by jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

While unable to figure when ninth in the Light Fingers Stakes first-up, Amicus is a proven performer over the distance of the Surround Stakes and is sure to have taken great condition for the first-up performance.

Hitting exceptional condition over spring, Amicus placed third in the TAB Early Quaddie Plate (1300m) first-up and second in each of the Cove Hotel BM78 (1400m) and Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) before taking out the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 11th.

Allocated barrier 8, the daughter of Fastnet Rock will be partnered by jockey Hugh Bowman in the 2015 Surround Stakes.

Winx is unlucky to have yet broken through for a victory at the highest level, but is a leading contender to break that record through the 2015 Autumn Carnival.

Winning the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) first-up in spring, Winx returned to the paddock after finishing second in each of the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes.
