2011 Surround Stakes – Nominations

March 1st, 2011

Nominations have been released for the 2011 Surround Stakes that will take place this Saturday March 5, 2011, at Warwick Farm.

The Group 2 Surround Stakes will take part as one of the feature races on Chipping Norton Stakes Day and is a 1,400 metre race open to three-year-old fillies only.

Worth $200,000, the 2011 Surround Stakes has attracted nominations from 11 quality fillies.

Amongst the nominations is Gai Waterhouse’s multiple Group winning filly More Strawberries.

More Strawberries has a career win percentage of 20% and has earned almost $700,000 from just ten starts.

The More Than Ready filly finished third last start in the Listed Triscay Stakes.

Peter Snowden’s Parables has also been nominated for the 2011 Surround Stakes, after finishing third to stablemate Obsequious in the Light Fingers Stakes.

Parables has won two of her eight starts and has never finished outside the placings in her career.

Peter Snowden will decide where next to send his Lonhro filly, depending on how she runs in the 2011 Surround Stakes.

“Maybe the Coolmore Classic, maybe the Phar Lap Stakes, we’ll just see what happens,” Snowden said.

Rose Of Peace, trained by Gary Portelli, has been nominated for the 2011 Surround Stakes after her maiden win at Hawkesbury last start.

Rose Of Peace was given a spell after finishing fourth in the Wakeful Stakes last preparation and will be aimed at the AJC Oaks this Autumn.

“After she ran fourth in the Wakeful (Stakes) it was then decided to spell her straight away and bring her back for the Oaks in Sydney,” Mr Portelli said.

Alos nominated are David Pfieffer’s Gai’s Choice, Bart Cumming’s Kim Heaven and Chris Waller’s Red Tracer.
