More Joyous, trained by the successful Gai Waterhouse, won the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on Saturday at Sydney’s Warwick Farm Racecourse.
The three-year-old filly went into the race as clear favourite, however had to pull out a strong finish as Hurtle Myrtle closed in on her in the final 200 metres, to maintain her unbeaten Sydney Carnival record.

It was an incredible testament to Hurtle Myrtle, really pulling out a strong performance having not gone into the Surround Stakes as a favourite, but will now look to the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) as a possible follow up event on the 20th of March.
Next up for the winner will most likely be the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) on the 17th of April.
John Thompson-trained So Anyway rounded out the top three finishers, coming in behind Hurtle Myrtle by 2 ¾ lengths.
Little Surfer Girl raced well, coming from the outside barrier and cutting across the field to finish fourth, while Devoirs came in fifth in the field of eight.
Also taking place on Saturday was the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).
