2010 Surround Stakes Final Field

March 3rd, 2010

The Warwick Farm Racecourse is counting down the days to its highly respected Chipping Norton Stakes Day, which will be held this Saturday, and one of the feature events is sure to be the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m).

Kicking off at just after 2pm, the 2010 Surround Stakes will be the third race of the day, and is offering a substantial $150,000 in prize money.

The starting line-up promises to provide an exciting race, with a small field of eight three-year-olds, all of which competing over the 1,400 metres for their share in the purse.

Drawing the inside barrier for the 2010 Surround Stakes is So Anyway. The John Thompson-trained filly has not made many impressive runs in her last few appearances, the most recent of which was her seventh place finish in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (12000m), where she lost to the favourite for Saturday’s race; More Joyous.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous is coming into the 2010 Surround Stakes with huge pressure on her shoulders.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous is coming into the 2010 Surround Stakes with huge pressure on her shoulders. Winning the Light Fingers Stakes with relative ease, it seems she will be the horse to beat this Saturday.

Starting out wide will be Chris Waller’s Little Surfer Girl. The filly finished eighth in the Light Fingers Stakes and needs to jump across the field early in order to create any drastic upsets.

Also taking place at the Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday will be the highlight event; the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) along with the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) and the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).
