The internationally-renowned Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is drawing closer, and so the Warwick Farm Racecourse is warming up, as it hosts the illustrious Chipping Norton Stakes Day on the 6th of March.
While the headline event for the day is the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), another feature event in the day’s line up is the 2010 Surround Stakes.
The Group 2 race, taking place over 1,400 metres, draws some of the country’s best three-year-old fillies to Sydney.
Taking place alongside the 2010 Surround Stakes is the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) and the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).
One filly who may start at the 2010 Surround Stakes is Misty Blue. The Greg Eurell-trained horse recently came second in the Group 3 The Vanity (1200m) with some other solid places in her portfolio.
While the start is not definite, a race to look at when it comes to likely contenders for the 2010 Surround Stakes is the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) held earlier in the carnival.
With prize money of $150,000, the 2010 Surround Stakes is a good indicator race in itself for three-year-old races held later in the carnival. If interested in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) or the Group 1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes (2000m), then keeping a keen eye on the outcome at the 2010 Surround Stakes is a must.
